    depends what u want really.

Halifax give you the whoppa like. £2750 in your first year. it stays at that mind. My lass has that one.

Mine is natwest. starts at £1250 rising to £1400 in 2nd year then £1600 in third. You get a free young persons railcard with it.

Think they are the best two.

    hope this helps

    DO NOT go for HSBC

They have begun to charge stupid amounts of interest on their "Interest Free" overdrafts (as soon as you graduate they start charging interest, whilst all the other major banks keep you on interest free for a year or two afterwards)

Would be worth checking into this - Barclays don't give many perks but their interest free overdrafts are:

    Year 1 = £1,000
    Year 2 = £1,500
    Year 3 = £2,000
    Year 4 = £2,500

And for the year AFTER you graduate you keep interest free overdraft on £1,000 then that drops to £500 for the 2nd year AFTER graduating. Considering I've just graduated and can't find a fucking job, it's canny handy! :)

Whatever you do dont be tempted to open another when you have maxed one and then when you max that one open another and keep repeating the process until you run out of banks... AKA The Sweeney Special, currently in a shitload of debt which I am sorting out through the citizens advice bureau at the minute. Up shit creek without a paddle basically

Whichever one you decide to go with, it's worth opening a Natwest one too just for the railcard.

I think they got shitloads of complaints as we got a message down the other day saying they weren't going to be charging interest on ODs any more.

For a while though the only way you could have interest free was to upgrade and pay for your Bank Account PLus

I had a Natwest one which was good and have a graduate Lloyds one which has remained interest free for 2 years to date and I am still not paying for the account even though I get loads of free stuff but I think that's a bank error!

you'd be an idiot to get a £2750 overdraft and will regret it massively in a few years

    just get a job instead

Mine is with HSBC and they havent charged me a single thing despite me being over my o/d for about 2 years

it's not irrelevant you tool. You said "whatever account you open, open a natwest one too"

that would be illegal, as opening two student bank accounts is illegal.

    idiot.

Perhaps redunant would have been a better word than irrlevevant then.

Illegal or not, the majority of students do it. Plus I'd imagine the majority of people on here have taken drugs, so legality is probably not an issue anyway.

Moreover, you don't even need to have two at the same time. Open Natwest, get railcard, close it, get a new account. So either way you look at it, it doesn't matter whether it's illegal or not.

You need to watch it with the 2 accounts as I know of a couple of people who did this, got found out and had to repay BOTH overdrafts within 30 days...grim

I know a few people who've been found out one way or another, and the bank removed their 0% interest from the overdraft.

regardless of the legalilities, I still wouldnt do it....being in debt when it can be avoided is just stupid (i.e. get a part time job)
