His mixing was pretty tight I thought, only one or two slightly dodgy ones but was fine generally.

I used to love oakie but must say his set at digital wasn't what i expected. I haven't downloaded this mix but I certainly remember one or two mixes that were slightly 'out' on the night. I've got about 5 or 6 oakie mixes from as far back as 99 and also some on tape from tribal gathering years ago where he totally trainwrecks LSG Netherworld into DeNiro's Mind of Man. Everyone is so critical of technical ability these days and the bar is raised higher all the time. I'm old enough to remember the days of good old rave back in 91/92 when the mixing was so 'cut it up' style that no-one gave a shit as the tunes themselves were so amazing....
I remember going to Sugarshack in smog land years ago when the dj booth was up on the balcony rather than in the centre (i'm talking back to 99ish here) - Oakie was on form that night but even then I'd seen him several times that year and he played very much the same tunes at each event. There was a guy called John Ceccini played straight after him and totally wiped the floor with oakie in every respect as far as I was concerned - better tunes and a darker trance style. I remember him dancing all over the monitors in the booth and its one night that certainly sticks in my mind even to this day.

Not sure how many people remember going to the uni aswell in Newcastle years ago when Oakie played alongside Dave Ralph and Dope Smugglaz..... Oakies style was far better back then for me...

It's all melt's fault! or that's who i'm blaming anyways! - he used to go to all the old rezerections, nocturnals, and the mayfair in newcastle to see the likes of Carl Cox, Mickey Finn, NJoi, Shades Of Rhythm, SL2, The Prodigy....to name but a few.... he's still got all the old flyers from 1990 onwards...and used to bring back loads of old mix tapes and subject me to the sounds of 'rave' as it was called back then... but i was actually about 17 when i hit the clubs proper.....
