Biographies are very nice, but before we go into that, here are the important facts: Daniel Wang is an awesome DJ with great, ultra fun records. Check out to mixes here to get a taste and read his article – which totally pins down what’s so great about disco, clubbing and dancing – below, and then you can go on and read his bio:

    Bio:

Born in California and raised in Taiwan, the well-traveled producer Daniel Wang has been among the most restless and classically minded members of the dance music community over the last decade. Wang made a name for himself in the mid '90s Chicago house scene with a series of playful, funky, sample-delic 12-inches on his own Balihu label, compiled on 1998's I Was a Disco Malcontent: The Best of Balihu Records. Rooted in the pioneering disco and techno innovations of Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, Francois K, Arthur Russell, the releases earned Wang a reputation for being something of a dance music purist, a notion underscored by his philosophy that the whole of house music can be summed up in 200 pieces of vinyl, while all the rest are merely variations.

Later in the '90s, Wang relocated to New York City, where he forged a friendship with the similarly retro-minded Morgan Geist of Metro Area. By this point, Wang had given up on the samples which cluttered his early releases, taking his back-to-basics ethic one step further. He'd also become an avid theremin enthusiast. In 2001, Geist's Environ label put out Wang's soulful, '70s boogie-inspired album Idealism.

Given Wang's love for all things disco, he was an appropriate choice to lead off Ghostly International's acclaimed 2002 nu-skool electro comp, Disco Nouveau. He does this in style with the thumping, funky, quite cinematic Moroder homage "Pistol Oderso."

    Warm up
    -----------
We have another special guest to get you in a dancing mood in the form of Glasgow’s Jack Archer, who co-runs Habibi and used to co-run Lovebug. Expect wonderful disco and italo-boogie vibes.

    Room 2
    ---------

Face your Fate DJs (members of Road to Rimini in a previous life) and another Glasgow disco stalwart, Joel (Slabs of the Tabernacle/Tabernacle Records), will be taking over room 2 in the cinema for the majority of the night. Not sure what they’ll be doing in there, but for sure they’ll be taking the chance to display the versatility of their tastes. You know they only play good stuff, so that’s quite a selection of brilliant music you have in both rooms.

So, there you have it. No reason not to be there, unless you’re really not into dancing to great dance music.

This will be quality, Daniel Wang is great and so's that venue.

We had him booked to play in London but unfortunately because of the snow last year his flight was cancelled, I'd 100% be at this if I wasn't in London this weekend.

    Sorry to hear that Baggot.

Reet, almost there now. NOT TO BE MISSED - a rare appearance in England let alone Newcastle from a true eccentric bringing an energy you just cant fake. Disco, like it should be with choruses in tact! Some tickets still left....

Will there be tikets on the door around 11:30 do people suppose, or am I better booking them in advance?

    Thanks

Great night - as per the podcast above, his mixing was dire at times, but did not spoil things too much - great atmosphere

Thanks for heading down, there was a good atmosphere. You must of missed the warm up if you thought his mixing was dire. All in all, a much better dj than expected in terms of selection and mixing in fact. Most folk who snipe at dodgy disco mixing have obviously never tried it themselves - live drums with BPMs shifting plus or minus 4 in a matter seconds isn't that easy to be fair....

    Genuine question;

When did people up here start going to nights that played full on 70's disco? Glitterball in Shields must be wondering where all their new clientele are hiding

I love all forms of dance music, so was something a bit different and thoroughly enjoyable - top night in end. Mind you 5/10 years ago I would not have dreamed of going to this kind of thing, ha
