I need a new laptop, My Asus is fucked as discussed on here it keeps just shutting off.

Id like to spend about a grand and the machine must be high specced for video and have a BD drive.

I dont want another Asus or anything Apple.... Do I need to look towards HP and Sony for such a machine?

    Whats Medion like? no experience.

I was looking at them last year and Samsung & Toshiba seemed to be the best ones going. Samsung I reckon, if you're spending a grand.

Toshibas are great, very well built and really reliable.

The HP ones are decent - I had two for work laptops (and my personal one is an HP as well) and they're both spot on. The Vaios are well designed and put together, but you seem to pay a little extra over the others for the name.

If you're after a brand new HP one, I might be able to get you a deal...

What does the john lewis website say?

One thing that I noticed about the HP's in the £400 range was that they all had horrendous, dull displays.

Toshiba & Samsung had nice crisp displays & just generally seemed a much better build quality.

Samsung make a lot of the display panels for other manufacturers. A fair few of the Sony LCD TVs are based on Samsung panels.
