You are kidding aren't you, about the travelling bit I mean? Surely a 16 year old is capable of travelling by herself. I flew to the Middle East on my own at the tender age of 13! That's including getting to the airport by myself, in case you were about to say you get put on one end and taken off at the other.

    Re: so then peeps....

Course I didnt think like I do now when I was 16. I thought my parents did stuff like that cos they were out to get me and didnt think they were ever being fair. Being a bit older has an advantage. I now get on really well with my parents and can talk to them about anything. And now I realise that the advice they gave me and the way they tried to stop me from doing things was for the best. Its because they care and dont want to see you fuck your life up.

Looking back at the advice they gave me, I wish I'd listened to them and I would be able to say that I hadnt made the mistakes I have with my love life, my career etc. When you're young, you just dont see it that way though.

Your parents are nearly always right kids. Dont ignore their advice!!

Fair point but IMO a lot of parents wouldnt be happy with their 16 year old daughter travelling hundreds of miles just to see her boyfriend, especially when he's older and they know he's gonna be wanting to sleep with her.

I thought you were not aloud on flights yourself before your 16. Who's passport were you on ???

    Anyways, that's irresponsible.

I was on my own passport, and of course you are allowed on flights by yourself before you are 16. I went to boarding school, and my parents lived in the Middle East, so how else was I supposed to get home during the holidays? It's not exactly uncommon, and it certainly wasn't irresponsible. At 16 I went on my first holiday without my parents for god's sake (with my 18 year old sister).

I was brought up in such a way that I would be able to be independent from a very young age. Nothing wrong with that at all. When I got to University I was absolutely gob-smacked by how few people knew how to deal with life away from their parents. Some people are far too wrapped up in cotton wool, making eventual transition to being an adult very difficult.

    LOL SPOT ON!
far too many people have their arses wiped by the parents right up til when they go to uni/leave home!
my gf is amazed at how independent i am from my family, being the eldest son i've always been very independent, where as she being the youngest daughter has had everything on a plate!

    LOL

I'm such a hypocrit - I went on holiday down south when I was 16 then to Tenerife with my mates when I was 17.

I'm just getting too old that I've forgotten what it's like to be 16.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread RUTribal. Break-ups are horrible, believe me I know, but you will be fine soon. Getting pissed is a great way to deal with things in the meantime!

IN a recent study (cant remember where i read this), it was found that almost all of the men who have landed on the moon were first born sons, and that over half of the presidents of the USA have been first borns.
edit> which shows that first born children are more ambitious/independant
