I might have mentioned it but I don't think there's enough prog on at Shindig just now.

Minimal started out as "minimal techno" years ago and was always played by Hawtin, Vath etc.. over the years it's become more and more melodic (e.g. Booka Shade "Night Falls" ) and is just known as "Minimal" and is a blend of the newer melodic stuff, as well as the bleepy, deeper stuff that still gets rinsed by all the hardcore minimal jocks.

Imo it's quality. A lot of people absolutely hate it though. It's took me years to get some of my mates to like it. But it only really hit the mainstream over the last 1-2 years thanks to clubs like DC10 - who basically owned Ibiza last year.

tbh alot of the people in here are talking crap lol, maybe you don't like him but he's hardly following trends, he's played nothing but techy stuff for a good few years now and techno's far from the most popular style of music.

haha, I'm only going off when i've seen him fella, i've seen him play brilliantly twice in smaller darker venues, but then poorly at arenas. I'm just laughing at half the he's just following the latest trends comments when he's been playing techy for ages.

I think everyone gives him too much of a hard time to be honest.

You've got to remember the lad was really young when he became a pretty famous DJ, and was playing hard house etc. Obviously as he gets older his tastes are going to change - dare I say, mature - and get into other more interesting styles of music, as I did and I'm sure everybody else has, it's just that him being in the limelight from a relatively very early age, his development has all been catalogued by everbody into dance music.

In my opinion, he has done a lot for techno in the UK, primarily on his radio show, where he's showcased people like adam beyer, ben sims, chris finke, ade fenton, jel ford, phil kieron etc etc on national radio, using his mainstream appeal to get more people listening to and realising they enjoy other styles of music, having done a similar thing for breaks too.

A few of my mates saw him at Glastonbury in the all night tent a few years ago, and they're hardcore techno heads, and said he proper rinsed it. They were well surprised too, coz all they knew him from was hard house etc...

I can't give anyone shit for what they used to play - I used to play fucking hardcore when I first got my decks in '96  - I was 14 though so you can let me off. A year later I bought the Zoo Ibiza compilation on vinyl from Trax, stopped playing that shite altogether and never looked back. Thank fuck

hugging trees , if you dont like it , fuck off , i
perhaps he gets far to smashed and doesnt have a clue what he's playing?...but ive heard some mint 'noise' from the guy,i like 'noise' not the repeatitive techno that all sounds the same, over and over, just like electro house, all sounds the same, but everyone plays it,thinks it mint, but it all sounds the same

people should look past the person playing the music and listen to the actual music in my opinion..

if you didnt know it was fergie who was dj'n,opinions would change
