Are speakers and laptops allowed on flights?

Probably a stupid question since I know people often use laptops, but I'm considering taking my netbook in hand luggage, and a small set of 2.1 speakers in the suitcase for in-house tunes once I'm on holiday. I've read stuff online and it seems like it should be ok but then a few sites say speakers may be a problem due to them being magnetic.. I can't see them being a problem but I also can't be arsed with any carry on. Has anyone else been abroad recently with these things?

not sure on speakers, they should be ok tho! i've taken my laptop on a few flights and it's normal practice!

Tip tho - if you havent got it in a laptop bag, but packed in a rucksack or somthing similar, make sure it's easy to get out of your bag since you need to take the laptop itself out for the scanners. i found this out the hard way at newcastle airport - to the jeers of about a dozen angry pensioners scowling at me for taking so long to get the fucker out me bag and into the machine.

    - Another tip, have a PAYG dongle or somthing similar if your wanting to use the net at the airport - it costs a fortune if you want to use theirs. i needed to send a rather important email while i was in departures and it ended up costing me dearly.

No internet needed. Just tunes and maybe the latest TUF Finale and Strikeforce event to keep me going on the flight :) I might just take my phone for tunes, but I'll decide how much I wanna see the recent MMA in the morning. I'll probably be thinking about it for the whole holiday if I don't watch is ASAP.. pretty sad but true and I hate reading abour results online instead of watching it :D

Ah nice one :D They're packed up and ready. Still contemplating taking the netbook but I'll probably leave it in the end.. would be typical if I lost it. I lost my new ipod right at the end of the last holiday I went on and was gutted.

Had on... Do you mean are they safe to take in hold luggage? I was under the impression you wanted to get them out mid flight and play them thru your laptop! Course they're fine in hold luggage. Id just take a non iPod mp3 player, headphone to headphone jack and some speakers tbh.
