There should be rules against this kind of thing.

Greedy mega cooperates would have Ethiopians working for to two grains of rice if they only telephones in their huts.

If this isnt stopped every call center in the UK will be gone in 3 years.

I've heard loads of things about all this from my bosses at the megacorp I work at.

The main point they make about this, is that the staff they hire in India etc work harder than the british.

Don't know about the truth in that tho'. I do know they can get away with paying £4 a day or whatever. :(

Barclays already do this. I changed to Nat West!

If I want to know what time the midday train to Durham is I will have to speak to a Bengalis.

I hate call centres and their pea brained workers, as it is, imagine trying to explain something to one of these chaps. I don’t care how many degrees they have or how hard they work. pah

    easier said than done

But apart from setting up rival eco- and ethically- friendly megacorps 'tis the only way.

Anyways, you can find out if it's worth going on your hols to *insert random foreign country here* when you next call up to order shoes from the catalogue.

are you saying its unethical for megacorps to shift call centres from countries where they have to pay minimum wage to countries where they don't?

did you know some manufacturing work for nike has been moved from Mexican plants where average wages are about $1.50 to China where the wage same job is paid 80 cents an hour..... guess the chinese must work harder than the mexicans

The ethically-friendly thing was meant in a broad sense, i.e. a british company that supplies british people with a service, should employ people in Britain. Reinvests money, sustains economy, etc. Millions of arguments for and millions against.

We are the Gods at the point of consumption,
But we are the slaves at the point of production.

This is something to do with ethics how???

Is it not more ethical that we provide employment to the poor poorer countries in the world.... actually put it like that I hope they're fucking grateful that we're giving them employment and good jobs

    ?

Are you saying it's right that a british company should make 2000-odd british workers redundant so that they can pay f*ck all for cheaper workers abroad?

India already has a good economy, why are you saying that it is a poor country?

It's ethical for a british company to not make british workers redundant. Ethics is a vvvveeeerrrrryyyyy broad term. This could go on forever... :(

In the 70's & 80's there was a phrase about Asians: 'There coming across here & getting all the jobs', when really most were self employed.

NOW THEY REALLY ARE & THEY DONT HAVE TO LEAVE BOMBAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to see the government

1)Get money back off any call centre that was setup with government subsidies that has since re-routed most of it business to India
2)Tax incoming/outgoing calls to all Call Centres outside the UK
3)All incoming & outgoing calls by call centres to British people most have an introduction stating REAL NAME,COMPANY & LOCATION
I.E BRENDA FROM BT, I AM BASED IN NEWCASTLE, UK or DIPTESH FROM BARCLAYS, I AM BASED IN BOMBAY, INDIA

I know people will shoot holes in these suggestions but these are just ideas with fine tuning could HELP SAVE JOBS IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!

    SAVE OUR BRITAIN!

Its disgusting and it sin't disgusting.

IMO call centers are a small step up from manufacturing jobs, it is claimed we have so many up here because we ahve a nice friendly accent... I would say its more to do with a huge whole in the cheap labour market since the docks n pitts closed....

With the closure of the pitts and docks a large amount of lower class families have since bettered their lifes, better educations, better jobs on the whole the north east is more prosperous.

Hopefully with the demise of the call center jobs in england it should motivate the pikeys into getting real jobs and generating more wealth for britania :D

I'm with si, this isn't outrageous its far more ethical than the sweat shops your happy to condone...
