    In a Year...

In a years time what do you think Newcastle will be like? Same old or will there be new places that will push the city higher up the entertainment ladder? What will the music be like? Will R&B replace cheese? What will the charvas like? Will dance music evolve or be the same old?

I personally think that staying in is fast becoming the new going out. People now have high mortgages and have cheap ways to entertain themselves (like buying a DVD). I think that perhaps 15 or so bars will shut and not be replaced. For me, going out in Newcastle isn't the same as what it was 3years ago. Perhaps i've got old and boring (well i am pushing 22!) but the buzz is no longer there.

    What do you lot think?

I have only been going out in newcastle for the last year, since i became a student there. And i have to say - although there are some dead good bars there, i was dead disappointed with the clubbing.
So - i want clubbing to get better!
I think house, particularly funky house is getting more and more popular, so hopefully the scene will get better and less trendy.
Also, i think music tastes move up the country, and it takes a while to get to newcastle. hence, r n b is massively popular there as its slowly moved up from th south...hopefully house music will be the next craze.
    :)

people are growing out of clubbing and the new blood just dont seem to have the enthusiasm we did. its a shame cos newcastle dont have many good nights on and i think there will be less unless something major happens and it becomes 'cool' again.

but i think also people are paying high rent etc. so cant afford to do it anyway. :(

this statement is shite. shindig has been going for nearly 12 years! look at places like stereo. house music always has been and always will be popular especially in bars but with shindigs hold on house music up here not many other nights can make it work.

funky house definately is going to be big this year. my only concern is the amount of shit that is being made at the minute.

sorry i meant to put hard house:dunce:

Yeah shindig has been running ages: but it's still one of few nites in newcastle, and cos ppl think it's cool that's the only reason half of em go, rather than 4 the music

hard house has been and gone really. the charvers will always love it cos its hard as nails but that was so last year  :D

and i think the majority of people who go to shindig go for the music and the rest go because they know its a good after hours place to drink thats chilled out in there but gets rocking as well. house music man

have you ever been to shindig??????

Do you know anyone who goes cos they think it's cool??????

Or are you just trotting out shit that other ppl have said :dunce:

Shindig is one of the best club nights in UK (and probs the best house night) with one of the best crowds going, says the DJs who play there :D

yes i have been. I know people who go 4 the music...but it just seemed that the atmos was quite unfriendly - people just push past u on the dancefloor which is one of my pet hates cos it doesnt take much just to say 'sorry'.

Maybe it was just the nite i went on, i dont know.

Can't see bars shutting in Newcastle itself...it is still and will always be a popular drinking night out...in fact more bars will open.

It's on the areas outside of the city centre that are having closures.

Take a look around...bars are closing at a alarming rate...an example would be Gateshead highstreet...although this has been shite for a while, over the last couple of months two bars have closed...many other local areas are doing badly...

Even the Deckham on Old Durham Road has gone...:(

why is it that in newcastle there are some really nice bars...ten u walk in and expect there to be dead trendy funky music but u get in and its cheese.

Bar 38 for example: a funky, trendy bar playing mis teeq and alice dj??

I'll probably give shindig another shot this year. i went last time thinking it was gonna be something it wasnt, but if someone a bit funkier comes along i'll probably enjoy it more.:)

CJ macintosh is playin in september and me and si wil be goin with a few others. will be a mint one to go to! :D

but the bars play shite because they know no better and the people o fnewcastle are oblivious really. most of em dont even care what music is on as long as they can dance to it. i suppose if they were approached by dj's to do it they might, who knows

Sex and drugs and Rock n Roll is all my body needs, sex and drugs and rock n roll is very good indeed.

R n B will replace cheesey trance, drum and bass will replace mainstreem trance... The cool kids will listen to rock n roll (THE DARKNESS) the idiots who think they're cool will listen to hed kandi.

Hip Hop will be in most backrooms.

Electroclash - no1 will even remember what it is.

when done properly, i think hip hop is great in a backroom.

The backroom at BED was really good: some commercial hiphop really well mixed into less obvious stuff.....it's good cos u can chill out to it as well as dance

    WHat part?

Theres already drum and bass in the charts - sometimes I feel like I'm in barcelona, then theres that 1 that sounds like lasgo with a drum and bass beat to it.

R n B nights are unquestionably the most popular clubs@the moment and with the american influence they're not going anywhere fast.

Hip Hop, is universally cool - be it old school, funky, new school, gangster... it compliments most clubs and can be found everywhere ikon to foundation.

Electroclash, had a tiny foothold in Newcastle, its basically considered a done genre by the rest of england, so why would Newcastle a city that doesn't even know what it is pioneer it.

Tell me bri... what part was shit?
