do you believe in the BBC? It looks like the bbc is being eyed by various individuals and there is even talks of the bbc being 'dismantled entirely' i personally think the bbc is a valuable resource - a rare and informative thing considering the other channels. i think it would be a very bad thing to happen.... discuss... Re: do you believe in the BBC? Agreed. Someone (can't remember who) once said that the UK had the best television in the world. The fact that the BBC has a number of channels with HIGH QUALITY programs, especially when it comes to one-off "dramas" (eg. "Messiah"), wildlife and such documentaries (Wildlife on One, Walking with Dinosaurs/Cavemen) , (not fond of them but some people are....) soaps, as well as bringing AMAZING comedy to the world, just look at Little Britain and going back in time they brought us Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses, ...the list goes on. Not only do they provide television channels but 5 "normal" radio stations and a number of DAB stations. Radio 1 is arguably the best national radio station in the UK (the world?), and the other radio stations are excellent for what they're meant to provide. Then look at regional level. Who honestly watches "North East Tonight with Mike Neville and Bob the Weatherman"?? I know I don't! I watch BBC Look North with Carol Malia and that Scottish Weatherdude! BBC Radio Newcastle, although I've never listened to it, I'm sure it's good. Honestly, if I have to pay my TV licence for ALL OF THIS, I would!! And I will! I DO NOT want to have "Britain's Worst Drivers 9" and "When Assylum Seekers Attack...3!" with some random bloke hosting it and fake laughter in the background on all day. AND with "commercial breaks" every 10 minutes. NO THANK YOU. "I believe in the BBC!"
Re: Re: do you believe in the BBC? spot on and IMO BBC News 24 is about the only news station that i would say i 'trust'... if murdoch gets his dirty claws into the BBC spud wont be a happy chap
!"- I like channel 4 too. It's great! But I wouldn't watch Channel 4 news, and they don't have the funding to produce documentaries and dramas/crime specials as high quality as the BBC. I'm not saying I don't like Channel 4 or ITV. Infact I think they are far better than American TV. The shit I had to watch when I was in New York last year (and I don't mean that funny little village up near Backworth and Earsdon!)...they're right up their own arses too! Example...(there had been about a foot of snow fall in one day)... "OH MY GOD...WE'VE GOT THE LATEST NEWS...OVER TO JOHN WHO'S AT SOME MANS GARDEN WHERE HE'S...WHAT'S HE DOING?? HE'S SHOVELING THE DRIVEWAY!!! THIS CAN'T BE!!" Idiots. OK it was a lot of snow but they literally had a correspondent for every tiny little aspect. "Hi Bob, I'm Katelyn Somethingy and I'm in the News Channel 6 Chopper and ALL WE CAN SEE is snow...EVERYWHERE!!" No shit sherlock it's been fucking snowing all day and night!! Sorry. I rant too much.
if you believe in the bbc, you're a fool.. look at the gilligan affair for proof of your foolishness....
Sorry I don't know about the gilligan affair lol All I know is that the BBC is far better than what it would become if America got it's hands on it! And it would become less reliable than it is now...probably.
there's no such thing as unbiased coverage. at the end of the day, you're seeing what someone else wants you to see.
Based on the actions of one man you are judging a whole institution? It makes me laugh, one guy who works for the bbc lies and people want blood, the whole government (well cabinet anyway) lies and on the basis of that lie we go to war and kill a lot of people (including our own soldiers) and we are talking about if we believe in the bbc! I believe in it 100 times more than our 'democracy'. I agree that there should be reforms in the bbc to avoid the sort of reporting that Gilligan practised (in this case) but in comparison to what the government has done in the past 2 years, well, there is no comparison IMHO.
for what it costs you get a shitload of entertainment... a rare thing these days. only thing i totally disagree with is their sports coverage - leave the bidding wars to the networks i think, the publics money shouldnt be blown on making david beckham a richer man methinks. Apart from that, the beeb is a british institution
