    David Vincent says.......

20 years ago I was inspired by LIVE AID watching what Geldof and Rock did for the starving in aid of Ethiopia. After watching those terrible pictures of the peoples of Darfur suffering last year, rather than sitting back, I find myself in the position to link up dance music’s finest to perform a historic event in aid of Sudan and give our own electronic interpretation.

As a promoter I have always tried to deliver the very best events for clubbers to attend but feel at this point in my promoting career it would be great for me to do a show which has a very real meaning behind it. This event is about saving the lives of people today, and future generations to come. I have always promoted events for the love of dance music as opposed to making monies, so for me to put together a show of this nature there was only one choice for me to get fully involved in the Playing Alive Foundation.

It gives me a great sense of pride and honour that my dance music peers have shown their faith in me as an organiser to play totally for free. Rest assured I am working nearly 24 hours a day on making this show the most historical dance event ever !!!

Here is an official statement from to Tom Findlay (Groove Armada).....
David Vincent knows how to throw a good party. I worked that out the night me and andy first played sankey's two years ago. Since then we've done 2 amazing warehouse parties under the 'tribal banner' and quite a few sweaty
night down at the club so when the opportunity arose to do this festival together, and in aid of a desparately important casue, I had to do it.

Its the way big news organisations work, but in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster, the suffering of the people of Darfur in Sudan has all but been forgotten. The humanitarian crisis facing them is every bit as real, and
depressing at that which faced ethiopia 20 years ago......and out of that came live aid. We have to do something, and in doing this amazing TRIBAL
event we are raising (hopefully) tons of money and just as important raising the profile of the suffering in Sudan........

This is Groove Armada's only live show of the summer. We'll be writing a new album round this time so we won't be touring......but the band and crew are doing this for love....and thats brilliant of them. Expect all the hits......and maybe a new track or 2. Across the festival the line up we have got together is pure quality and I cannot thank all of the artists involved enough for giving up their time for nisch.

Please buy these tickets quickly and bring your friends and your family. As the momentum gathers we'll be announcing more blockbusting artists. This is going to be brilliant and you need to able to tell people that you were there - TRIBAL GATHERING 'PLAYING ALIVE' July 16th 2005.

    thanks,

    Tom.

Clubbers are often accused of being pure hedonists, not philanthropists -the kind of people who put their hands in the air like they just don't care.
But the organisers of Tribal Gathering, the festival that was the blueprint for big multistage outdoor dance music events in the early 90s, are hoping to change that image. The first outdoor Tribal Gathering event in eight years will be held on July 16, with all proceeds being directed to the humanitarian effort in Sudan.

Organisers hope to raise about £400,000 from the event, which will be held in "secret enchanted woodlands" near Leeds three days after the 20th anniversary of the original Live Aid concert.

About 20,000 people are expected to hear DJs and artists, including Groove Armada, Audio Bullies, Zero 7, Francois K, Danny Rampling, Mike Pickering, X-Press 2 and Norman Jay, perform on five stages. Happy Mondays' member and Celebrity Big Brother winner Bez, will perform a DJ set featuring "early rave and the 90s' Madchester sound".

Tribal Gathering's self-described director of fun, David Vincent, said: "When I saw the pictures of what was going on in Darfur I knew I had to do something. Dance is perceived as not having a conscience, but people who go to dance events are quite in touch with what's going on. We've got the chance to demonstrate that dance can unite and do something for the good of other people."

Vincent said the artists would be performing for free and all profits would go to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The location will be revealed two weeks before the event.

"The money we raise is important, but it [the festival] might also kick other people in other musical genres like rock, pop and indie to get involved," Vincent said. "It was great what the British people did for the victims of the tsunami, but unfortunately people seem to have forgotten about Darfur."

The return of Tribal Gathering will conjure up fond memories for many older clubbers. Designed to unite house music's increasingly diverse tribes on one site, the first festival was held in April 1993.

The final outdoor event, in May 1997, was headlined by Kraftwerk and attracted more than 50,000 people.
