    Shock.

Getting a bit sick of Soundcloud and its protection of "artists rights".... thinking of moving to Mixcloud. Any thoughts on either website? Has Soundcloud had its day?

Never had any problems with soundcloud, but I've heard from mates who have.

Case in point is a mix @Ian Cox uploaded a couple of years back that had Tensnake - Coma Cat on (just before it got released into the charts). The software soundcloud used identified it as the record in question and disabled his upload as a direct result.

I don't see the point in it personally, all these record companies are doing is preventing people from listening to their tracks (and therefore getting free exposure). On the other end of the scale, I've had a thank you message from a producer on Soundcloud because I featured one of his tracks on one of my mixes.

I think if Soundcloud panders too much to the record companies, it could kill it for mixes. Beatport have just thrown open the doors on a similar site, and it's already plagued with problems because they've tried to implement the same sort of rights management that soundcloud have started doing now.

The same will probably happen to Mixcloud if it gets more popular - it'll come under more and more pressure to conform. People will jump ship to the next big thing.

That's the issue there, once it gets big then it's on the radar for rights and collection agencies. There are probably lots of other similar services out there but because they're small operations then they don't have any issues with copyright (yet).

And the Beatport Mixes thing is an absolute joke. You can't add a mix unless you've purchased all of the tracks that make up the mix with your Beatport account. You can't use promos or stuff of your own that's not signed/released. This is so they get around having to acquire extra licensing to re-sell the same content in a different form. Receiving 10% per mix sold at a whopping $6 you'd need to sell at least 30 - 35 mixes just to break even.

No one is going to buy mixes from Beatport.

Soundcloud for any tunes your making
Mixcloud for your mixes. I like how mixcloud automatically identifies your tunes so you don't need to add a track list.

    Soundcloud is crap for mixes
