Hypothetically speaking, say a box of 12 bottles of wine is delivered to your office 3 weeks ago and it wasn't addressed to you and you genuinely didn't know this until after it was signed for and the delivery man had left, so you sign your name assuming it would be a delivery you were expecting.

Then, last Friday, you drank 16.66% of the box of wine in question. Then a bloke from the shop it was ordered from comes to your office today asking to pick up a box of wine that was delivered to your office accidentally, by an external delivery company. You tell this man that you get a fair few deliveries each week but don't remember any wine being delivered. He leaves saying he'll ask in the next few offices.

    Where do you stand?

Drink the rest of the wine and do a runner sounds like a good bet.

if you didn't sign in your own name, and there is no way of recognising that you signed for the goods, then providing that you can live with yourself and don't let your conscience bother you then I would drink the wine and say nothing. The wine will be insured so it will just be the bloke who delivered the wine who gets bollocked.

Remember, this is a hypothetical situation. And lets just say I did, hypothetically, sign my own name as I thought it was something else.

you are guilty of theft and if you continue you will be guilty of fraud also. the correct address was on the box so you knew where it should have gone. You could fess up and offer to pay for the wine or brass it out. If the wine can't be found you could always change your signature and deny all knowledge. But a theft conviction is a hassle for the rest of your life

The correct address wasn't on the box. It had my office address on but clearly wasn't meant for me. But it is blatant theft, but that's what alcoholism pushes you to on a Friday afternoon.

All they can do is a investigation, which will show up a copy of your signature (can your name be made out from this?).

Said guy will probs pop back to your office cluthing a copy of said signature and put you on the spot.

If theres no doubt its your sig he can get you done, if you can blag its not yours and you cant work out the name your laughing
