ESTA application for uk citizens traveling to america

Has anyone on here applied to this having drugs cautions?

    http://www.esta-online.co.uk/

If so were you ok getting the nod to go into the US?

Planning on New York next year and have a caution for pills from over 3 years ago and people have been saying that it's well strict for any drug offenses. Just wanting to see if anyone has gone through this whole process and knows exactly what the crack is.

no, but i'm loving the options like:

Have you ever been or are you now involved in espionage or sabotage; or
in terrorist activities; or genocide; or between 1933 and 1945 were you involved , in any way, in persecutions associated with Nazi Germany or its allies?

Have you ever been arrested or convicted for an offence or crime involving moral turpitude or a violation related to a controlled substance; or have been arrested or convicted for two or more offences for which the aggregate sentence to confinement was five years or more; or have been a controlled substance trafficker; or are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immoral activities?

    fucking hell

i'd also like to know about this - i've got a couple of a cautions under my belt from early this year. nothing class A like (yet)

"turpitude" - clearly an underused word.

You only have to fill that in if you don't want to travel on a visa.

I am not sure what checks they do when you get to customs their end, but ''apparantly'' you should be ok with cautions when you complete the visa on the plane.

From stuff i've seen on the net and people i know who have been the best way seems to be winging it and not declaring anything.

Risk I would rather not have to take but it seems to be zero tolerance for drug offenses

You'll be fine man, by the time your away next August the caution would have elapsed over 4 years. I wouldn't worry too much.

After that point totally kissed his arse and gave him guesty. As if that makes up for havin his parents house raided!

I wouldn't mind but all he had was an empty bag of horse and a small lump of smoke.

Im just laughing at the 'Lump of smoke'

To be fair, the only reason the Plod probably raided his house was to prevent him ever trying to take a shit drug into a nightclub again.

If i remem rightly when i walked out the ballrooms Purvy was in Australia and we had to look down to see him from Stowell Street.......

I think i actually nearly got nicked for explaining what had happened n the copper was a right throbber.

The state of the polar bear was later described by many as the effects of "whale ket" and even "t rex ket" - nothing was confirmed...

you dont have to fill the form in yet, i went to the US in august filled in the forms and they said they couldnt use them and we had to fill in the waiver anyway.

The wording of the bit to do with drugs is fairly straightforward, if you have been arrested then you are supposed to declare it. But if you do declare it you will be denied and will have to go through the US embass. Its weird though because I dont know how much weight a caution carries, i know if you are applying for a full green card you have to disclose any criminal convictions, but i am unsure how it works with cautions. Also you dont need to disclose any convictions prior to turning 18.

It's a tricky one. Either get a visa, which means you have to go to the US embassy and pay about £100 for the pleasure, aswell as your travelling expenses etc. Or, risk being turned away when you get to the airport by not delcaring it on the visa waiver. Which I think also means you can never travel to the USA for the rest of you life.

I've read on quite a few sites how the US have access to british records but i dont know if cautions appear on there info.

It was 50/50 for me but i didnt end up going in the end.

    Good luck!

a caution is a conviction. you accepted you had committed the offence and were cautioned. It goes on your record and if you have a biometric passport then your total police record is available to US customs due to our governments need to kiss Americas arse at every opportunity

This is the most useful piece of info i have found on a message board called lonely planet. Bit long winded but if your in a similar situation to me then good reading. It was also posted September this year.

    "Hello to all.

I have recently been granted a US tourist visa from the embassy in London. I had to apply for a visa because I had 2 cautions for possessing class c drug around 4-5 years ago.

Hopefully this post will help answer any of your questions. 'Cartonblue' is correct in what he/she posted so ill try not to repeat.

I had already paid for my trip before realising that I needed a visa. This is the process I followed including costs.

Applied for police certificate from ACPO - £70 4 day responce. (£35 one can take 12 days)

Phoned embassy to book appointment (£15 phone charge) where I was instructed to scan certificate and completed VCU 1 form and email across for them to approve.

Received email confirming approval. I then had to phone embassy again (£10 phone charge) to book appointment (£85) using only visa or mastercard. I managed to get an appointment for 7 days later.

Travelled to embassy complete with necessary forms. Booking confirmation, VCU1 form, police certificate, passport, DS-156 form, DS-157 form, flight details, bank statements.

Sat and waited for my number to be called before approaching kiosk and handing over forms. Sat back down and waited to be called to another kiosk. Here I discussed my cautions, reasons for visit etc with an official. She confirmed then that I had been approved for a visa (which was a great relief). As my case didnt need referring and was confirmed on the day I recieved my passport back 3 days later complete with visa (£15).

Total cost then = £195 + travel costs and day off work.
Total time from start to finish = 23 days.

I would recommend that if you do have a caution that you declare it and apply for a visa. It will cost some time and money but if you allow for this when planning your trip it will make your trip more enjoyable as you wont be stressing about getting into the country.

Like I said previously, I hope this has helped you but if you have anymore q's just post them and ill try to answer.

    Enjoy your hols people."

He had 2 offenses for class C and i have 1 for class A ad it will be just under 4and a half years when i come to travel.

I have an old style passport, not one of the new chip ones, i take it thats what you mean by bio passport.

I wonder how different it would be for class A?
