PGCE is another year at uni though, and I plan on going to Medical School at some point. All I want currently is something to tide me over on a reasonable amount of money.

Jimi - I'm pretty much willing to do anything at the moment. Since I've been home I've applied for a massive array of stuff, from secretarial to financial, as well as the degree-related research and clinical posts that I've been applying for. Thus far, I've heard back from three; two managerial positions which I knew I wouldn't get, and one secretarial place, which I didn't get. It's certainly grim up North...

dont take this as an insult but have you not thought about night shift at a supermarket, its usually canny good money and not alot of work, which will do you until you can find yourself a degree related job

It probably says as much about BT's mis-management of resources, as it does about the state of the job market.

Not really. BT are trying to get rid of 15,000 positions (mainly contractors) in order to save money. It doesn't make sense to try and take more people in on one hand when you're trying to get shot of people with the other...

    4/5 years :(

By the way, speaking of companies trying to cut costs, has anybody noticed that Orange seem to be completely shafted during the recession?

Didn't you do medicine at Uni Allie?

I don't envy your situation like..but keep at it.

Bad news about BT, but there are still plenty of other grad schemes going!

    Thought about working abroad?!

You would think a pharmacologist on a clubbers message board would have been raking it in by now ;)

i have been really lucky with my job/uni, i enrolled at uni part-time before i even started looking for an Assistant job, ended up getting first job i applied for. when i had been here a few month i asked my boss why he picked me and he said it was because of my previous work experience and "life experience" being 25 i was 5-7 years older than the other applicants, he liked my attitude to life aswell as finding a career. i will be 30 by the time i get my degree :( but in my line of work, no degree no $$$$$$

nah lad, my offer for Medicine was from HYMS (Hull-York Medical School), based in Hull... thought I'd allow that. As for working abroad: well, yes, but I'd prefer to have at least some form of financial backing before I moved away anywhere!

Lucien - Pretty much, yeah. I'd rather have gone straight into Medicine three years ago and then intercalated a BSc in Pharmacology, but either way, I wanted the two degrees together. It helps in the long-run, and in fairness it should be mandatory that all medics also have a degree in Pharmacology, or at least an additional BSc.

Well just be happy in the knowledge that by the time your 30-35 you'll have more money than you'll know what to do with it..... The medical field is nothing less than an absolute gold mine.
