They were going to close Amnesia, etc.. Last year and then they just fined them...

I'd imagine that the authorities have to be seen to be doing something about the 000s of people going there to take drugs but in reality the same people bring in a lot of money to 'The Island':cyber:

No, not miraculously, the ban ended after they paid their fine (so they got closed down). Along with DC10, Privelidge, Kanya & Cocoon (at Amnesia) & BarM.

They have to be seen to be doing something, a lot of this probably comes from pressure from other countries sticking their noses in like they do towards Amsterdam's cannabis laws. It doesnt look very good if they just sit there and accept that their island has a major drug problem and is a breeding ground for complete fuck ups. If it gets to the point where it affects £ through decreasing tourist numbers itll sharp change back to its good ways!

i like that they say 4.5 million people were there last year and there was 720 drug related arrests.

i think one night by mistake, some dinner plate faced raver got an address wrong and was caught pissing in the plant at a councillor's cocktail party which in turn, lowered the tone of the evening for a bunch of snotty nosed well to-do Spaniard tofs. they have now decided that no more bean bag flavoured lunatics from the upside down brigade are going to stumble out of a club at 9am and shit in the pool while they're enjoying breakfast any more.
