UK 'not a multi-faith society' A bishop has used his Christmas message to insist Britain is still a Christian country and not a multi-faith society. The Bishop of Lichfield said the UK census has established 72 per cent of Britain's population was Christian. Other religions made up just five per cent, Reverend Jonathan Gledhill said. He added that if local councils or shopping centres had problems with the word Christmas, it was wrong to blame people of other faiths. Reverend Gledhill said some reports of shops banning Father Christmas, or of councils rebranding the festival as Winter fest, had proved to be false or misleading. But he said: "When decisions like this are reported we are told it is to protect people of other faiths." "This is strange, because you rarely hear people of other faiths complaining about Christmas." Committed He added: "And the other reason is that Britain is no longer a Christian country. I just don't buy that." The bishop said he was committed to a multi-cultural Britain and working with leaders of other faiths. "He said: "I'm not saying it is okay to ignore their feelings, their aspirations and needs. I am saying that Britain is clearly not a multi-faith country, but a Christian one." "If your local authority or shopping centre is having trouble with the word 'Christmas', don't blame Muslims, Jews, Hindus or Sikhs." The Diocese of Lichfield covers much of Shropshire, Staffordshire and parts of the West Midlands. source: bbc
Re: UK 'not a multi-faith society' But it is the reason why they do it, why else would they? To save a few ££'s by not putting Santa in his grotto?
I dont know hardly know any christians.... I would say Britian is a NON faith country in the Whole most people are Atheist or Agnostic
I totally agree with that, I don't know a single person that still goes to church and follows any kind of reglion. Bring the no religion world on a say, I can't wait to watch that program on Christmas day that says who actually wrote the bible. I Can't believe people still believe that book, the church is very corrupt in my opinion.
i think a lot of people still have belief in something, whether it's the CofE thats most popular in England or whatever, but they're just not church-going practicing people.... religion seems to fill a void/answer a question that all people ask - "why are we here?" most people, in my opinion, and i'm not just talking about the UK here, need to think there's a reason, some big plan, someone watching over us - it gives them comfort. simple answer is there's nothing. a fluke of nature and we evolved. no mystery.
If you read what I said "the church is corrupt in my opinion", I'm not basing it on anything it's just my opinion.
There must be some corrupt shit going on, I mean who goes to church anymore apart from funerals weddings and shit, but theres still fucking loads of them everywhere. How do they manage to fund everything, maybe there into drug smuggling or something, bet they don't get checked at customs cause they are godly people.
