apart from they've arrested & released on bail 2 ppl who used to live in shotley & who now live down south somewehere!!

They keep saying it about both murders every now and then. Normally round the same time of year as they happened.

They'll never catch the person responsible for either of them

she was really good mates wiv my stepmam, from what i can gather its unlikely theyll catch anyone now....... just keep gettin lots of false hope never turns into anything concrete

there are ppl who know who did these tho...one lass who apparently knew was found dead off the gill bridge having apparently jumped...crack is she was killed cos she knew...her house was found a mess with stuff shoved up against the doors to stop someone coming into the room!!!!

A bloke that was one of the suspects hung himself after his babysitter was killed in his house. He did a runner after she got killed and was found dead a few days later.

Maybe people just said it was him cos it couldnt be proved now he's dead

On every anniversary of her murder the police make a statement saying theyre getting closer cos of new evidence etc etc but nothing ever comes of it

john thompson was blamed for every murder in consett after he topped himself....

He was blamed for two. His babysitter. Bit of a coincidence his babysitter being killed in his house and him killing himself straight after innit.

Other one was Julie Smailes. I think the police actually said at one point they believed he had something to do with it. Maybe they were just saying that cos they know they dont stand a hope in hell of catching the killer. I remember the police coming to my house to ask us stuff about it. Nice thing to happen just after we'd moved here

the police have suspected a few ppl over the years... the sad thing is that there is people who know but after all this time its unlikely anyone would come forward now.

u still see bits in papers sayin theyre gettin close, but think evry1 wil believe it wen we see it, not just rumours. we live in hope

he was also re-linked to fatty's murder!!!

he defo killed his baby sitter...i remember mickey was working for vicky's dad at the time & he rang him to say he cudn't wrok cos john had killed his baby sitter & they were looking for him cos they were going to kill him!!!

Its only ever around the anniversay they say the stuff though. Any people that know anything will keep quiet cos they'll be scared of what will happen if they dont.

I live in the village where it happened, IMO its the worst area of Consett and should be blown up with most of the people who live here still in it. When my mam told me we were moving here I told her Id rather die cos I was petrified something bad would happen to me. I have lived to tell the tale though

How could they actually have known for sure though. Im sure nobody else wouldve been there when it happened. They thought he did and maybe he had nothing to do with it but killed himself cos he knew if he didnt someone else would cos they thought he killed her. Its possible innit

they probs maybe's didn't but due tot he fact he did a runner it looks very very likely he did....i don't think they wud've checked with him either had he been found alive!
