Went to Bali in July/August last year. Was fantastic. Have a look on www.balitravelforum.com for more info/tips etc. I lived in Penang for six months between my GCSE's and A-Levels with my Dad (who was running a pipeline project there at the time). Best few months of my life :) South-East Asia = heaven. I love it, cant't wait to explore there properly when I leave uni.

Ferox - Cheers m8, i'm going out there because my Girlfriends dad works out there for 3 months every year to work.

All i'm paying is £312 for the flight out there and the rest is free except spends, it should be a laugh:)

Chepest place I've ever been. Petrol is 6p a litre. Three course meal is £3/4. Massive breakfast (Lumberjack breakfast - steak, bacon, eggs, chips, tomatoes, beans, toast tea/coffee & fresh fruit juice) was less than a quid. Would imagine its cheaper now!

Expensive for Bali/SE Asia. Was about £40 for a meal for three of us. Expensive in the bar/club aswell. about £2 a lager. Damn expensive for Bali! Don't buy the rip off merchandise from there. I might go back to Bali for a month next year. Either there or Phuket. :)

I went to Bali in '97, so things may well have changed, but I would recommend going to Lovina on the north coast for a couple of days. Absolutely beautiful and less touristy than the south coast. When I was there loads of people would go down to the beach to watch the sunset, including an Indonesian guy who sat there with an iguana just sitting on his shoulder! Also go and have a look at Padang Bai on the east coast - beautiful little village (where you get the ferry to Lombok), probably not worth staying overnight though. Ubud (in the centre of the island) is great for the more 'cultural' stuff, and I would definitely go to the Monkey Forest. Kuta on the south coast is basically the Australian resort, with loads of Aussie surfers. Has the best night life and shopping though.

    Enjoy!

Thanks hun, we're staying in Bali for around 5 or 6 nights before going to Indonesia or Singapore(not decided). I'll take note of the places you have said and check them out.

Let me know if you decide to go elsewhere in Indonesia - I spent some time in Java too so could recommend a few places.

It'll be unjungpandang(sp), i'm going out to see my girlfriends dad and thats where he's based for work. We'll probably take a good look around if we go there as he knows the place really well.
