    Xp

For some strange reason, I can't post from my laptop, it runs XP. I was using it OK last week, but now the post takes ages to transfer, then fails... Any ideas? ...and before some smartarse fish says it....no, I'm not removing XP.

Agreed, installed XP, hated it, binned it, bought 2k instead and been happy since.

Since I put XP on, me machine will just reboot at random intervals. There's no set pattern to it, sometimes it can go for days and other times it will occur a couple of times per night. Was fine before XP. Both fans are working, can't be overheating.

I know I'm facing a fullon reinstall...but with so many progs setup on me machine...I just can't face it.

Is there anyway to replace XP with '98 without losing everything on my hard drive?? I ain't got a cd writer on my computer and theres quite a bit of music that I don't want to lose but XP's just too damn slow (for me anyway).

    replace xp with 98 ?

    strange one like :spangled:

    but if u really wanna..............

what filesystem is ya winxp drive? FAT32 or NTFS?

    if it is fat32.....

just get win98 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com or www.bootdisks.com and start ya pc with that.....

    do SYS A: C:

(assuming ya hard disk is drive c.......)

then rename ya windows dir to summit else......

then just install 98 as normal...

if it is NTFS.......get partition magic and convert to FAT32 then do above....

or create new partition, install 98 on this....

You lot been using XP and not XP Pro??

I've got XP pro and it pisses on 2K

had 2K for quite a while but decided to upgrade, never looked back.

XP Pro is great, much better features, much more customisable and its a lot more stable.

Admittedly, XP is canny shit, full of bugs and crashes all the time, but XP Pro is the bollox, i strongly urge you to try it out!

My computers gettin' on a bit and as soon as I installed XP its seems to have slowed down shit loads and filled up my pitifully small hard-drive. I never had any problems with '98 and although I'll miss the lovely new look of XP my computer'll be better of without it I reckon.

Cheers mate, not sure when you replied but I only saw it today! I'll try your tips tonight and then get back to you if I need anymore help. (You wouldn't think I'm (supposedly) doing Computing at uni!!!)

    Cheers again.
