    XP Updates > Won't boot

    Reet.

Mate was having problems with his pc.

Broadband connection. No firewall. No antivirus. No adaware. and No Windows updates. Ever.

So, installed & ran adaware, and norton antivirus, cleared loads of shite off, all was better.

went to windows update, 52 to install....did them all bar SP1, rebooted and all was fine.

However, after installing SP1, it just goes to windows boot screen and then loops continuously.

    Easiest Solution?

    Ta.

Re: XP Updates > Won't boot

happened to me before m8 , only thing i could do to get it back on was to do a windows repair , boot from the xp cd , choose install xp on 1st screen ( dont choose repair at this stage ) which will take u to a second screen , then choose repair existing xp .

it takes it back to before sp1 tho , and i reckon ur best bet is to install sp1 before the rest this time !!

    Yeah I was thinking that.

I assume this will keep files and programs exactly as they were?

I have not done it that way before you see, and I don't want any files lost.

He informs me it's a copy......although I have not known this to happen on copies before?

I run a copy and mine's been fine, and we got it off the same person it would seem!

Strange....I will have to watch out with SP2 then :s

Stop helping him and let him sort it out  :D

If xp repairs succesfully, don't use windows update! Loads of places about where you can get hooky copies of SP1 and 2. (oh, and configure the firewall so update doesn't try and call home...)

    :)

    :tut: :tut:

bad advice - any1 using windows should ALWAYS keep the os up2date - not doing so, ur just asking for trouble ;)

as for xp calling home - no point trying to block it sending anything to M$ -waste of time, fact is they KNOW when ppl r using hooky copies of xp - its just something they cant really control other than collate all the known dodgy serials and blacklist em in future service packs.

Re: Re: Re: XP Updates > Won't boot

Not bad advice, I said to get hooky copies of the updates - I have them all at home meself :) (for studying purposes ;) )

M$ do not really mind about pirate copies of windows anyways, it keeps their market dominion :lecture: . But it's a good idea to not let windows 'phone home', otherwise they can get some interesting details about you, and who knows what they may do with it... plus they're still conspiracy theories abound that they know more about what else you get up to 2. :(

    @ trance_fan - I know that feeling... but it get's some beers in :D

Ahhhh - i thought u meant dont update   :p

What u mean by hookie copies of the updates??? Are there such things? The updates are free, do u just mean just downloading them manually n updating offline? As in dont let windows update do the download/install...?

Agreed about the whole M$ not caring thing about the average joe bloggs with his didgy copy of windows - they get their money from businesses and honest punters so they happy.

The phone home thing - unless u block ALL outgoing data tbh u aint gonna stop it.

Theres worried ppl out there even suggesting M$ encrypt and hide personal details within valid system services which NEED to access the internet - who knows? ;)

it *WILL* deactivate most known "dodgy" serials or serials generated by a known "dodgy" algorithm - BUT.......we all know it wont be too long before another keygen is available - its just how it is...

I didn't know I had my own breakfast cereal? :cool2: Or my own sea-life percussion group? (algae-rhythm)  :lame:

    :)

Hookie updates - one's that someone else has downloaded and put about for sharing :)

The M$ conspiracy thingy - they are taking control. Any money they're building the next Skynet or Aquinas Router... ;) :D

Aye, but paranoid peeps like me like to stay away from any M$ servers. By doing that I stay paranoid.

M$ are def in it, in collusion with the Bush administration, Coca-Cola, General Electrics, BAE Systems, the Bin Laden family, Majestic 12, the CIA, the British Government, all of NATO, Intel, several shady third world countries, many unheard of hush-hush organisations and the puppies. And all for what?

To annoy you with that fucking paperclip.
