    The Budget

I wonder how much more hard working, normal people will be squeezed tomorrow?

Seems like the environment is the governments latest excuse to tax, tax, tax, but not to actually use that money on any environmental improvement (or use an tax for the purpose it was introduced in the first place).

doubling of road tax for gas guzzlers .... money taken out of peoples wallets, then given to

    1. the eu
    2. people on incapacity benefit
    3. etc etc....

Im sure farmers, or people in rural areas will be thankful for this great 'idea' .... or the people who earn enough, and get taxed hard enough already, to actually be able to own a 4x4.

The number on the left is your gross salary - and the number on the right is the change in your tax... a positive number means you pay MORE tax, a negative one means a cut in tax.

Looks like anyone earning between 6 and 19 grand a year has just been shafted.

What is the number on the right? Pence? Percent? Either way, I'd be well pissed off if I lived there and earned such paltry sums to start with.

Dont worry, they still get shafted.

A tax 'cut' with one hand, but a stealth increase elsewhere to make you more worse off ....

    Good old gordon brown.

I hate that fucking term that the whinging middle classes have coined. Fucking stealth tax. How's it a stealth tax? If you're paying out money then there's nothing fucking stealthy about it. Who gives a shit if they call it income tax, VAT, capital gains tax, or a speeding ticket? It's all going in the same purse.

Not being middle class, you wouldnt know the what pain and anguish that being stealthily taxed feels like.

Surely a liberal like yourself can at least go part way in understanding our plight!!!

As I said above, there's nothing stealthy about it.

Pleased to see the inheritance tax threshold has been raised. Cant believe that child benefits have gone up again so people can earn more money by sitting on thier arses and popping bairns out on council estates, fucking disgrace.

I'm not sure the government has seen the full picture regarding their policy on taxing "gas guzzlers". I think perhaps they have their priorities wrong when trying to paint a picture of them being a 'green' government.

As someone who lives in a rural area, it's not possible to use public transport all the time, it's a 35 minute drive to Newcastle and to use public transport would mean making a 2hr trip on a bus and a train, which is not always practical considering their are only 4 or 5 services a day, due to the council cutting public transport services in the most rural areas.

There are many families in the area who have no choice but to use one of these "gas guzzlers" - a Renault Espace people carrier is in the top band of road taxing... Using their vehicle is a necessity to get round the area, unlike the toffs around the city in their range rovers.

It's an urban myth that people who live in the countryside are middle class - most of the villages and towns around north/east tynedale are comprised of working class types, a lot living in council housing - so simply buying a new low emission people carrier or whatever is out of the question.

Only people in corbridge can afford that

Agreed, I dont think people who genuinely need to use 4x4's because they live in rural areas should be punished. Its Chelsea mums that use them for 3 mile journeys to school and back with one kid in the back that should be.

Seems like people on low incomes without children are going to get ripped.

More incentive to have children then and get the state to pay.

    Nice one.

Creating more overcrowded towns, more co2 in the atmosphere and less fossil fuels!

The government need to put a stop to the amount of kids people have in this country.
