    aye.
On the facebook page saying some exciting news to be announced soon?

I hope its not the case tbh, seeing a once great night brought back from the dead AGAIN to the same sort of shambles we have seen twice before with the 'efforts' in Sunderland and the Attic will be a joke. Just let it RIP!!!!!!

why don't they just let nights that were great nights just be ....its the same with sundissential.I seen on facebook someone is trying to bring that back but more often than not its people who were not associated with the running of these nights originally who want to trade off the name.

the only event of recent times that I would say has made a moderately successful comeback is INSOMNIACZ and thats basically because they went and did fuck off huge events which reinterppreted MAGNAS tidy events and only ran as 1 offs.

surely digital society north east would be a more welcome forward thinking regular addition to newcastles club scene as opposed to promise or have digital society seen the light and are focussed on their home town events in leeds or hell .....maybe the digital society north east lot are thinking of bringing promise back....now that would be intgriguing

earl is that for real or a joke

if its for real....its a very sad day for newcastle clubbing

hoults yard is a warehouse for wanabee YUPPIES who pretend they have money and shovel showbizz sherbet in the pursuit and belief that they are successful types.

real warehouse culture does not package itself like that

    :(

Melt, surely you're thinking of Floritas/Koos?

Fair enough, the venue has it's flaws, just like every other venue (including foundation), but having gone to habit, shindig, and DS:NE among others at W34, I think it's a decent space, and when worked over by the right people it looks the part.

You're not feeling threatened by a regular warehouse party are you?

It's quite decadent MELT commenting about bar waiting times at a WAREHOUSE.

The late 80's and early 90's was never about the 'venue' and how long it took to get a drink. It was just about the music.

I dunno. Some people are just far too commercialised these days. ;)

Thought you would have liked the venue mate. The general consensus seems to be that its just behind Foundation in terms of a venue for a big room rave. Every club has it flaws, and can't cater for every niche. For example Foundations flaw was the toilets. I have not had an issue yet with Hoults, I get my drinks early as I'm normally one of the first there, and then rarely return to the bar after that. Top venue, and the only one IMO with any chance of Promise succeeding again.

Aye Deakin is still running that chilli company, see him down the quayside market now and again as usually has a stall down there. Richard is as far as i know still running the family farm, so cant see either of them being too involved in bringing it back?

I do like Hoults yard but even then cant see the point in bringing it back... what percentage of the old promise crowd would still be into it enough to come down?

Totally agree that the way forward is concentrating on newer nights such as DS who had a successful launch there in april rather than looking back constantly, it will never ever be a patch on what it was as a weekly night at Foundation in the early days so cant see any point in even trying to bring it back under the same name and branding etc.

For it to have a successful comeback, Promise would have to forge a new direction, and given their previous attempts at a relaunch (sunderland/attic) I can't see that happening.

Their last two events were a hash out of the dreadful repetition that had started to mire it towards the end of it's time at foundation (and evolve at digital to an extent). A handful of guests on shameless repeat, with no thought paid towards anything else.

With Audio Rehab, Warped, Transfusion and DS:NE all competing (and doing a better job) for the same space, I seriously can't see a Promise relaunch offering anything new to the mix or pulling people in.

The reason why this will never happen is that the reason it is being brought back in the first place isnt down to anyone genuinely wanting to push the brand forward or reinvent it, its down to people wanting to milk it as a cash cow and line the pockets of whoever is now running it...

I suspect it might be Leon from Attic, he was helping Deakin run it last time round.

Might be worth asking Mark on fb and seeing what he says, someone would have approached him about it if they were planning to do it...

Promise was about the punters. It had a good space in Foundation and a good resident but you can't revive a dead body. You have to go with a new birth. I don't think there is a large enough mass of dedicated clubbers who are young and energetic enough to make a regular night have that atmosphere again. The yoot are into many different scenes and there is no consensus on what everybody likes. Dance music has turned into a set of competing sub genres each with their own little turf. Meanwhile everybody else has moved on. And the drugs dictate the music and they are mostly rubbish now. people just get pissed and stumble about.
I liked W34, it had a sort of dirty unkempt vibe which is ok. Someone with an eye could make a great space there.
