problems with car cd player overheating?

my car radio has started freezing when playing a cd, it wont respond and wont eject, if it does eject the cd is RED HOT even if it hasnt been playing (radio on for instance)....

if i leave it for a while it plays for 10 mins then does the same.... iv only tried when my car has been running so its hot anyway from the engine etc

defo seems like its overheating to me

is it normal for a cd to heat up loads when playing??

    It's not normal, no.

Is it a ford by any chance? My girlfriend has a fiesta that does exactly the same...

is it not a laser problem or something to do with the amount of power your putting into it? thats the only things i can think of to be honest like?

Generally a car headunit has a bear min of 3 power cables (although usually encased in a multipin ISO connector)

    Black - Earth
Red or Yellow - Constant live
Red or Yellow - Ignition switched live

    Then speaker cables (+ & - front left/right, + & - rear left/right).

Unless its some really strange earthing/shorting problem, it would usually just operate correctly or not at all. Sounds like the HU is on it way out to me.

HU is just short for headunit, it could be heat related, does it always do it, even when first switching it on?

i get about 4 mins out of it then it jams on the track second with no sound, then the cd switchs off and says disc error (iv tried diff cds, orig and copys). I am going to try it tomo without starting the engine and see if its the engine heat maybe

its defo heat related id say cos if i leave the car for half a hour to cool down it will play again so its either the player or the engine heating it up

its a expensive player tho am pretty miffed to say the least
