    HOW much for the Olympics?!?!

What a suprise - 4 TIMES the original budget

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/15032007/140/olympics-london-cost-9-325bn.html

and the council tax payers were moaning about that too  it's going to be like the Dome - a total money pit, they're resting SO MUCH on this, that they can't let it fail. To the point where they'll just chuck money at it, no matter the cost. i reckon it'll hit £30billion - easy. Do they do this on purpose? "oh it'll only cost this" when infact it's 10x that - look at :

    () the Dome
    () The Scottish Parliment
    () the 'gerkin'
    () the tube expansion

all massively over budget from what they originally told us - are they thick? or hiding it from us? Good state of the economy? i wouldn't believe a thing they told us

I'm still pleased we've got it, but this does seem to be getting a bit stupid. I mean, they're syaing they need more for 'heightened security', why wasn't this factored in at the start?

Do they have to tell porkies to get it approved in the first place by showing good value?

More corruption - something sold to us on blatantly made up figures ... then we have to suffer the concequences when the estimates conveniently turn out to be incorrect by 300%.

The olympics can fuck off in my book - i dont want them and dont see how they can possibly benefit this country in terms of the money being spent on them.

Re: HOW much for the Olympics?!?!

Council Tax has gone up 24p a week, well worth it imo, I for one cant wait until the games is on. Although i would have preferred if they had given everyone in London a grand instead

The Games is brilliant for London, Barcelona was an absolute shit hole before the Olympics and now look at it

People forget that the regeneration of East London was going to happen anyway to the tune of £2bn (i think) so that is absorbed into the cost

What happened with The Gherkin? Its a class building :king:

    Aye its apparently a dump.

I dont see how building a load of sports stadiums, and getting the population to foot the bill is going to do anything other than make it look a bit nicer .... lets leave that to the private sector to do.

10 billion quid could do alot more good in this country than one month of sporting events happening in 5 years time.

I hope your not going to come out with the lovely new labour 'oh blame this for the tories' line .....

... we've had a DECADE of the current administration - more than enough time for positive change, or massive overhaul of things that you might have percieved as being a negative tory legacy.

Last time i heard, maggie and the tories never signed 25 year off balance sheet agreements to pay private companies rent, yet fail to include it in their budgets.

The chancellor has mortgaged this country big style.

    Agreed.

I see it nearly every day, yet I still haven't got tired of looking at it.

    Could it really?

The way money is mismanaged in this country, its probably best that some kind of legacy is left for £10bn worth of investment.....

I noticed that £400m is going towards british sport, that can only be a good thing (if you like sport obviously  ) , just look at the Ozzys ffs

The Gherkin is a great addition to Londons skyline

Out of interest, where did the money for the Millenium Bridge (in newcastle) come from?

my point, they tell us 2 billion when infact the KNOW thats complete bollocks and it's going to be easily 10 times that.

East london regeneration? ahh well, as long as the cockneys have nice buses - it's sweet!

So your admitting money is horrifically managed in this country - but its better that its horrifically managed on something we can go all dewy eyed about (despite it meaning fuck all for the average person).

Imagine what you could do with 10 billion in a northern town .... or a decent fucking rail link .... or on some decent roads......
