Habit - ALEX SMOKE & AUDIOJACK - Friday 3rd November - Cosmic Ballroom

Habit returns with a special double bill, featuring two of the UK's brightest house and techno acts

    Alex Smoke

After impressing with a live show last November, Alex returns to Habit for an eagerly anticipated DJ set. Since releasing his first single back in 2004, the young Glaswegian has caused a huge stir in the techno world, with the term 'genius' regularly being associated with his productions. Earlier this year, Alex released the excellent 'Paradolia', the follow up to his critically acclaimed debut album, 'Incommunicado' on Soma records. In March of this year he completed a debut Essential Mix for Radio One. He continues to tour the world extensively, playing places like Sonar and Fabric on a regular basis. October 30th also sees Alex release the latest installment of the Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi compilations series.

    AudioJack

Audiojack are a young electronic double act from Leeds that everyone is talking about after their release of one of this years biggest club releases - 'Robot', a track that has destroyed dance floors all over the globe. It now stands as one of the biggest selling house download tracks of all time. As well as producing 'Robot', they have also turned heads with their own original remixes of Popeye's 'Spinach Disko' and Paul Woolford's 'Erotic Discourse'. Highly respected house label, 2020 Vision have been so impressed with their output that they have signed them to their label to complete an artist album. Audiojack are without doubt one of the most exciting production duo's around today.

this date will also form part of Alex's new mix album tour

some more info. getting rave reviews already.

Following on from volumes by Ewan Pearson and Luciano, Scottish label Soma looks to local homeboy Alex Smoke for the third installment in its Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi mix CD series.

Alex is more known to RA as a producer and a live act than a DJ. This year his debut album ‘Paradolia’ was acclaimed for its take on the difficult long player format, while he’s also been busy remixing the likes of Steve Reich, Junior Boys and Depeche Mode.

Alex recorded his ‘Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi’ volume live in one take using mostly vinyl and a smattering of his own unreleased tracks on CD. As for the mood, it looks like he’s opted to dig deep into his crates rather than selecting the latest and hottest, which a big nod to Detroit (Juan Atkins, Robert Hood) and the Detroit-inspired (2000 & One, Aril Brikha). Elsewhere there is the dubstep of Burial, two dub techno cuts by Basic Channel and, from the depths of his collection, obscurities by the likes of Thomas Brinkmann and Stewart Walker.

The next Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi experiment will be conducted by Andrew Weatherall.

Alex Smoke ‘Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Volume 3’ Tracklist

    1. Porn Sword Tobacco - Najat Library Card (City Centre Offices)
    2. Burial - Gutted (Hyperdub)
    3. Basic Channel - Radiance (Basic Channel)
    4. Model 500 - M69 Starlight (R&S)
    5. Rhythm & Sound - See Mi Version (Basic Reshape) (Burial Mix)
    6. Troy Pierce - 25 Bitches (Gaiser Remix) (minus)
    7. Stewart Walker Vs Theorem - Minor Explosions (Minus)
    8. Add Noise - Loose Wire (AC Version) (Earsugar)
    9. Aril Brikha - Aqua (Transmat)
    10. The Vision - Detroit: One Circle (Metroplex)
    11. Thomas Brinkmann - Xenia (Max Ernst)
    12. Claro Intelecto - Peace Of Mind (Claro Intelecto)
    13. Musica Charlista - Juan & Alex (Apnea)
    14. EPY - Faktum (Trust)
    15. Alex Smoke - Pingu (Vakant)
    16. Quixote - Squat (Unreleased)
    17. Alex Smoke - Always & Forever (Vapid Mix) (Seventh Sign)
    18. 2000 & One - Fokuz (Eevolute)

‘Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Volume 3’ mixed by Alex Smoke is out on Soma Records on October 30th, 2006

cos having just listened to alex smoke's essential mix and audiojack's latest website mix, i'd say audiojack would maybe sound better to finish.....non?

i am not responding to any more of his comments now anyway. not wasting my time.

alex will be finishing. i agree audiojack would be good to finish, but alex can go pretty peak time house/techno as well. should be jumping from early on anyway.

    :)
