Of course being British is a belief!

Nationhood exists only in our conscious, the borders of the state are defined by man, the culture of the state is defined by man and the recognition of its existence is defined by man.

    How is religion any different?

I shall be teaching my children that different people believe different things, and that it is up to them to make up their own minds on the basis of evidence and rationality.

If this means they come home one day believing in G-d or the flying spaghetti monster then so be it.

You weren't born in Britain, you were born ina geographical area which has been labelled Britain by man... If you were born here a few hundred years ago you wood of been a Northumbrian.

Religion is no different, it exists only in our minds and has an accompanying culture.

I'm referring to people of Jewish religion over Jewish ethnicity here, I have no problem with differentiation by ethnicity :D

You know fine well that state borders and cultures are defined by man, just as religious borders and cultures are defined by man.

Of course they're religious, one of the greatest rabbi's I know does not believe in a G-d; he keeps kosher, prays, follows tradition, etc.

Humanistic, Reform & Liberal Judaism have many followers that don't believe in a G-d.

(Buddhism is another religion without G-d)

Being Jewish (just like being British) does not mean you will all have identical beliefs and values... it is a nation of individuals.

You two are off form tonight....

Going through the motions of the ceremonies doesn't make you religious - I sang a few carols over christmas and I've been to christian-ish weddings and funerals - 'following tradition'.

The reason I'm not religious, and nor are the people you're referring to, is that I don't believe in the supernatural.

Who's your rabbi praying to exactly?

If you don't believe in a god, you are an atheist: Oxford English Dictionary definition:

You can't be a religious atheist
