Fucking anything at the Academy. See Zabiela's on at the Leeds academy soon and that's only been open half a year or sommit! Need a promoter to have some balls and put an event on there.

    From Wiki:

The venue was converted from a bingo hall in the summer of 2005 at a cost of four million pounds. Its two-level auditorium has a capacity of almost 2,000 (standing and seating). The venue is operated by the Academy Music Group and sponsored by network operator O2. The venue was formerly known as "Carling Academy Newcastle", being rebranded following a multi-million pound deal between O2 and music promotor Live Nation.

Fuck a duck, didn't realise it opened in 05!!!!

Academy website says 250 or 400 downstairs?!?! Surely that can't be the main dancefloor area?

an event needs to be looking at pulling more than a couple of hundred to make a carling academy event viable

2000? fucking hell - i bet there's not 2000 dance fans IN newcastle with similar enough tastes to make it viable!

HAHA That is a fair point actually. Maybe Shindig could do something special for their birthday, two venues, one night. Sasha and Digweed b2b for 8 hours at the Academy with a more housey line-up at Digital HAHA

We've done exactly that for April mate & since me and dan have both got more involved with the bookings side of beat therapy since Nez has gone, were wanting and are able to take it up a step.

I love the ballrooms and feel like askew is one of a select few trance djs that'd pack out the ballrooms.

not to mention all the munters done one after halliwell finished.

leaving the place less than half full (or half empty?)

the Trance end of the spectrum only really works in smaller venues i think. otherwise it just doesent work.

    This is my personal opinion!!

I cant speak for jamie or carson but i would think that as a promotor running a night as a business you'd have to book people who'd guarantee you getting big numbers through the door and personally i think john askew more or less does guarantee that in newcastle

as for revisiting junior G territory why not? it was a good formula (the cosmic ballroom + some amazing bookings) It was hugely successful and still would of been now if barry and co had'nt taken the ever so strange decision to take it away from newcastle (where it worked) and putting in middlesborough (where it just doesn't work)

as for john askew as a dj, i think the guy is unreal and a much sort after dj i dont think i'm alone when i say i'd pay to see him anywhere.
i personally think he's a fantastic booking and if elements or beat therapy could get a regular trance event back at the cosmic ballroom, i think with the right bookings they could be just as popular as junior:G. lets face it there was a huge whole left when they left the ballroom and evolve just doesn't do the job for me. they could get the whole old junior:G crowd back.

good booking lads, bring on Askew!!!!!

taking it from the cosmic to the horrible shit hole maze that is the 'attic' was never going to work - partly cos of the layout, and partly cos it was obvious that whoever was just whoring the promise name around and didnt really know what they were doing

promise back at the ballrooms and well ran would have been fucking immense
