Are the police THAT desperate for money or are they just stupid?

    Its one or the other.

This jumped up, just out of school policeman fined me £30 for parking on the double yellow lines outside my flat, even though we protested that we had been told by traffic wardens that I could park their for up to three hours with my disabled badge on display. But he and his two mates (why the fuck it takes three of them to write out a parking ticket is beyond me?) were sure that wasn't the case so he fined me anyway.

    However, I quote from http://www.bluebadge.org/wheretouse.htm :

'You may usually park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours in England and Wales, or without time limit in Scotland except where there is a ban on loading and unloading, and at a few locations where local schemes apply ? e.g. some areas of central London.'

And as I have stated we have been told by traffic wardens that it is fine for me to do so. I find it rather disturbing that a traffic warden knows the laws of the land but the police don't.

After giving me my fine, he then wished me a nice evening. The cocky little twat!

    Rant over!

    Appeal against it.

Did you get his badge number or anything? I'm sure that if you go down to the station and prove this to him, he will feel very stupid, and you will be let off with your fine.

cut n paste the quote n go to the police station n dispute it! They get away with far too much these days cos they know people wont dispute it! We should stand up for our rights and not be bullied into paying up just cos they are "supposed" respected members of the community, who in my eyes get off on the authority and take it out on us!

I thought double yellow lines meant 'no parking at any time'.

Disabled badge may change that, but i dunno.

Yep. We did. They're blue now, by the way, not that it makes any difference. You set it so it shows the time you first parked there. It was set at 7 and this happened at just after 8.

"usually" being the key word here....

in all fairness, parking on double yellow lines is asking for trouble.

granted u may have been told by a traffic warden its ok...BUT....for it to be ok i guess u need sum sort of permit to display?

saying that, i wud appeal anyway if u were told its ok u shud have no problem getting yer £££ back

It's absolutley shocking how there's no parking outside a set of flats like that.

If you let people park where they want in a city centre, it would be total chaos.

Thats why theres double yellow lines, and paying car parks.

    Sorted!

And to quote the traffic warden: "The police just don't know the traffic laws."
