Anyone into mountain biking? Which of these hardtails? I have a budget of about £550 and need a decent bike for entry level cross country and some uphill/downhill forest type stuff. I live in the lake district so there's plenty of places to go. I've been reading up on reviews of 2010/2009 hardtails and so far I've come to the conclusion that the Carrera Fury 2009 and Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc 2010 are two of the best in my price range. If there are any biking enthusiasts here who know a lot about components etc, what do you think of these two and/or do you know of a better alternative? Nightmare, you lanky fucker Tough one from those, the brakes are better on the carrera (they are the same as mine) but the forks are better on the specialised. Other than that they are pretty even! Just flip a coin
anyone still speak to anderzz? he left to join the RAF and bought a class bike before he went so not sure if he still uses it?
Personally I would go for the specialized. Just because I prefer specialized lol. As people have already said they are pretty even. I am after a road bike actually. Having a good look about first though before I spend.
From reading around it seems like the Suntour Epicons are better than the Dart 3's, just less widely known. Apparently the RockShox Tora's would be the best which were on the 2008 model of the Carrera but things changed for the 2009 model.
Suntours used to be fuckin shite (might be sound now like..), RS are decent. Seriously though..dont buy a carrera over a specialized..
Do you know anything about bikes? Not to sound like an arse or anything but your previous comment about only buying Specialized or maybe a Trek leads me to believe that you're all about the name as opposed to knowing that the majority of the bike is put together with parts that are brand specific in their own areas.. IE a Specialized could have all the same components as another brand, only the Frame and a few other parts are different. I know next to nothing about bikes, but after reading reviews and forums, and speaking with people in the downhill biking club at Uni, I now know to avoid the typical 'uuug not that brand' type advice For your info, a lot of experienced riders are telling me the Fury is the better bike.
Yeh i raced XC for about 4/5 years. i would say the frame is the most important part, and the Specialized will have a better frame without a doubt. Dont buy a bike without trying it out first you might not get along with the position ect..but yeh if i was on your budget id get the specialized
I'm planning on testing both before deciding, and yeah the frame will be better on the Specialized, although the following is said about the carrera frame "The frame is a decent disc-only aluminium cross country frame, with the usual head tube gusset to reinforce the front end. Unlike the lower end Carreras, you'll find that all tubes are butted, too." I just showed my flat mate the specs of both bikes and he said the Carerra has a much better spec also. It's a tough one when I'm gonn a be using up the last of my savings on this

As a comparisson, your car wouldn't last 4 years if you were using it off road £600 is considered entry level in todays market.. anything upwards of £1000 can still only be considered mid-level. My flat mate just got a pair of front forks for £500 for one of his bikes.. he has 3 in total dor different terrain/uses. It's certainly not cheap!
fuckin hell didnt realise top notch stuff cost that much in the biking world! to be fair like mate my car would prob last about ten mins off road before crumbling. just about manages on the road. as youve probs noticed I havent got a clue about bikes... or cars for that matter.
mine cost £1500 ish a few years ago, one of my mates has a custom built trek hardtail he paid about 2.5K for, fast as fuck like! a £500/600 one is all you need like
